Hard to believe but it has been almost 1 year since our last post (!!!). A lot has happened but most of you will be more or less up-to-date what was going on (and still will be).

In two words: House & Offspring

The first (House) we now live in for more than two months and you can see some pictures below… feeling a bit house proud . The second project (Offspring) is now ongoing for almost 9 months without any big issues and we are confident that we can finish it within the normal time frame . All are well and Martina can take things a bit more slowly (as she has to) for the last two weeks since she has been off work and at home.

We have also attached a few photos from our housewarming (somehow nobody thought about taking pictures during the party), which had a 1920s theme that fits in with Martinas liking of tha era and the wallpaper on our two feature walls.

It’s us again. Yes, we are still alive and we enjoy life.
A lot has happened since March …

Once again it was winter and thankfully the winter is not too cold in New Zealand. We now freeze like kiwis and pull us warmer once it’s below 15 degrees .

In August Martina’s sister Eva and Johannes (our nephew) came for a visit. We all had a great time together. We clearly have to repeat this in a few years .

We hope that we will get a lot of visitors in the next few years.

To welcome the visitors appropriately, we decided to buy a house. To find the right property in Germany is already hard enough, but with our European standards wishlist it is even more difficult to find something suitable in NZ within our means. After a long search, we settled for a new built.
Next July we will be proud homeowner of a detached house in Hobsonville Point. This is a neighborhood west of downtown with ferry connection to the city centre. Thus we hopefully can take it both easy riding the ferry to work and saving us the daily traffic jam on the highway.

Our house has 3 bedrooms on the 1st Floor and has an Ensuite for the master bedroom. All bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. On the ground floor we have an open kitchen, living and dining area and a separate family room. Also downstairs, a guest toilet and a laundry room. The house is oriented to the north and through the large folding doors we can enjoy the sun inside and outside. With a double garage and a small garden we have enough space for a game or two of soccer or perhaps rugby?
Our new home is within walking distance to daycare, elementary school and secondary school and over the next 1-2 years on top of a great cafe we will get several small shops and a supermarket very close. A playground and a large park are just around the corner.

The district is developed environmentally-friendly and we will ideally only need one car and can do many things on foot or by bike. This sounds for Europeans like common sense, but in NZ this is a new concept ;). If you want to know more about the area go to www.hobsonvillepoint.co.nz.
We hope that we can make a first internal inspection when Martina’s mum comes to visit at Christmas .

Two weeks ago was Auckland Marathon again and Jürgen has competed in the half marathon with big goals. Despite intensive training, he unfortunately had to significantly reduce his speed due to an injury to his left thigh midway through and so only made it to the finish in just over 2 hours. That meant a good 10 minutes past his targeted time . But after some motivating words and changing the shirt he actually looked quite happy. Don`t you agree? :

We did take part this year again.

Opposed to last year we were able to grab one of the greatly demanded spots for the Half Marathon.
After a long and tough training we both made it! The weather was perfect and it was an awesome experience running over the famous Harbour Bridge.

Jürgen was able to clearly beat the 2 hour mark with 1:57 and Martina also managed to stay way below her aimed at time of 2,5 hours with 2:21. We are both very proud :)!

Let’s see what suprises the sport’s year 2013 has to offer. On the short list are currently other Half Marathons, Duathlon (Biking and Running) or Triathlon. We will keep you posted.

Hello again,

as promised for a long time here some photos of our new apartment. For all of you who ask themselves now “When on earth did those two move and where to?”

Our landlords took to their heels in August and moved to the contemplative Gulf Harbour in the far north of Auckland. They offered us to take over their city apartment. After long considerations we decided to seize the opportunity and moved to the apartment next door beginning of September.

As you all can see below we now have “a bit” more space and have been very busy for a few weekends finding fitting furniture for all rooms. After long searching we eventually found all the right pieces and you can see the result on the pictures below.

Entrance:

Study/Guest room: Because unfortunately we have to work in New Zealand as well. Also Jürgen’s iMac needs to have a place to live in ;). In case we will have guests go astray to NZ’s shores this is also the place to rest on the comfy sleeping couch (or if someone needs a place to crash after a long city night out).

Kitchen: We inherited it from our landlords and are more than happy with it. Finally lots of space, gas cooktop and two ovens. With Christmas around the corner that means that there is nothing in the way to bake plenty of German cookies.

Family Bathroom: Passing the laundry wardrobes (with washing machine and dryer well hidden), one arrives in the Family/Guest bathroom. A throne with a view, if you dare. Some guests need to close the blinds because they feel observed ;).

Kids/Gameroom: Currently Jürgen´s Gameroom with Pool table (yep, finally!). Will be a kid’s room one day…

Bedroom: Fantastic view on the Harbour.

with Ensuite: Very convenient with a view (we completely forgot to take a picture of the view but a few secrets need to remain)

and a Walk-in Wardrobe: Every woman’s dream. Or in our case every Man’s because Jürgen is occupying more than half of the space ;) (Remark by Jürgen: You all know that Martina’s comprehension of space does not always concur with reality :D)

Dining Room: We can host and culinarily pamper up to 10 people there. Sideboard in a 60s style.

Living Room: Cosy couch for us and Leon ;). As everywhere in the apartment with a stunning view.

And last but not least our balcony with the latest furniture addition.

We hope you enjoyed the little tour and have been animated to give us a visit. We take bookings from oversea’s visitors for 2013 starting now (NZ friends can just give us a call ;)) but the guest room is already occupied in August next year :).

Wir haben mit Erschrecken festgestellt, dass wir uns schon sehr lange nicht mehr gemeldet haben.

Tja was ist so alles passiert seit Februar.

Wir hatten tolle 3 Wochen in Deutschland. Danke an alle, die sich die Zeit fuer uns genommen haben. Wir haben uns ueber jedes Treffen riesig gefreut.

Nun sind wir auch schon wieder ein paar Wochen zuhause. Wir wurden vom neuseelaendischen ‘Winter’ ueberrascht und sind nach 21 Stunden Flug in einer viel zu kalten Wohnung angekommen. Nach ein paar Tagen aklimatisieren haben wir uns mittlerweile dran gewoehnt und sind froh dass die  Temparaturen normalerweise nicht unter 5 Grad fallen und es an vielen Tagen doch sonnig ist (obwohl der Wetterbericht was anderes voraussagt).

Wir trainieren auch immer noch fleissig fuer unseren Halbmarathon im Oktober und opfern dafuer wertvolle Zeit des Wochenendes.

Wir wuenschen euch eine schoene Zeit. Wir werden versuchen euch oefter auf dem Laufenden zu halten.

P.S.: Falls ihr irgendwas von einem Vulkanausbruch in Neuseeland hoert macht euch keine Sorgen. Der Vulkan ist weit genug von Auckland weg, dass es uns nicht beeinflusst.

Wow und schon wieder ist ein Monat rum. Kein Wunder, dass die Zeit so schnell rumgeht, schliesslich sind wir mittlerweile fast jedes Wochenende unterwegs.

Ende Januar waren wir auf Waiheke mit unseren Fahrrädern unterwegs. Waiheke ist eine Insel ca. 40 min mit der Fähre von Auckland weg. Da wir direkt neben der Fähre wohnen, dachte ich es wäre eine gute Idee die Fahrräder zu nehmen und ein bisschen Rad zu fahren. Wir waren bereits einmal auf Waiheke, aber irgendwie hatten wir beide nicht mehr in Erinnerung wie hügelig die Insel ist. Kaum sind wir angekommen, ging es schon den ersten Anstieg rauf. Schnaufend sind wir dann oben angekommen und ich musste auch schon das erste Mal absteigen und schieben (das sollte nicht das letzte Mal sein). Mit hochrotem Kopf sind wir dann erst mal frühstücken gegangen. Das Lokal hatte eine tolle Aussicht über eine der Buchten in Waiheke. Den restlichen Tag haben wir dann auf dem Fahrrad verbracht immer abwechselnd zwischen bergauf- und bergabfahren. Gerade Strecken gibt es auf Waiheke leider kaum. Für eine Pause haben wir uns dann an den Strand gesetzt und um die Motivation hochzuhalten, haben wir auch bei zwei Weingütern angehalten und dort die lokalen Weine probiert (und auch was gekauft ). Am späten Nachmittag sind wir dann beide ziemlich k.o. wieder heimgefahren. Und das müssen wir auf jeden Fall wieder machen, diesmal ohne dass ich absteige .

Das nächste Wochenende waren wir dann in Kerikeri (Bay of Islands). Das liegt ca. 3 Stunden Autofahrt nördlich von Auckland. Schon auf dem Hinweg haben wir uns die Straße mit vielen anderen Autos geteilt, weil wir alle ein langes Wochenende hatten. Wir haben dann noch einen Stopp in Kawakawa eingelegt. Dort gibt es naemlich tolle oeffentliche Toiletten designed von Hundertwasser. Aber seht einfach selbst.

Als wir in unser Bed&Breakfast eingecheckt hatten, sind wir erst mal an den Strand gefahren und haben uns eine einsame Bucht gesucht. Sehr romantisch so zu zweit alleine am Strand . Das restliche Wochenende haben wir dann mit Weinproben, Schokoladenproben und Wanderausflügen verbracht. Auf dem Heimweg haben wir noch einen Zwischenstopp in Waitangi gemacht. Da wir auch das Waitangi-Wochenende hatten, war dort eine Art Volksfest, wo die Unterzeichnung des Vertrages zwischen Maori und der britischen Krone vor Urzeiten gefeiert wird. Bei diesem Fest sind vor allem Maori zu finden und ein paar Touristen. So haben wir uns auch gefühlt . Alles in allem war es ein sehr schönes Wochenende wie auch die Bilder zeigen.

Letztes Wochenende waren wir im Shakespear Regional Park. Ah, eifrige Leser unserer Seite von 2006 sagt dieser Name vielleicht noch etwas. Wir waren bereits 2006 einmal dort und haben ein paar Fotos gemacht. Wer sich nicht erinnert hier der Link http://nz.byte-fight.de/ShakespearRegionalPark.html. Diesmal war das Wetter besser. Wir hatten strahlenden Sonnenschein und man konnte bis nach Auckland sehen. Immerhin waren wir ca. 50 min vom Stadtzentrum entfernt. Nachdem wir uns ein bisschen sportlich betätigt haben (Hügel rauf und wieder runter), haben wir uns an den Strand gelegt. Müssen ja an unserer Sommerbräune arbeiten. So kann man seinen Nachmittag verbringen.

So wir hoffen es wird euch ein bisschen warm bei den Bildern. Nicht mehr lange, dann ist es ja bei euch auch wieder warm.
